My Self Report (General Information and Academic Administration of UIC High School)


School profile:
UNIVERSITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION (UIC) Davao City Philippine.

(College: 1905 / University: 1992).

UIC has three campuses. I have a chance to teach in Bajada Campus (Grade School / High School) J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada Davao City 8000 Philippines Telephone Numbers: High School (082) 222-2030.

UIC high school has some vision and mission here they are:

Teaching System
The UIC High School Department, recognized as a Secondary School of Excellence, continues to meet the challenge to maintain and strengthen its academic and non-academic performance and sustain its achievements over the years.
To ensure this, LEADS and SHAPES, an innovative and transformative system of instructional delivery has been introduced, cascading the school’s vision and mission and integrating Ignacian core and related values in all instructional classes and integration activities.
LEADS is Learn, Excel, Achieve, Develop Character and Serve. SHAPES refers to key value points: Start where you are, Harness what you have, Acquire new knowledge and skills, Preserve your Filipino values and resources, Enrich your culture, Share your learning to others.
Students and faculty are reminded constantly of these imperatives through a LEADS prayer before the start of a class or activity and the SHAPES Prayer at the end of a class or activity. These prayers also help them imbibe more meaningfully the Vision, Mission, and Goal of the University.

Under this program, UIC High School aims to be the premier Pre-college education provider in Region XI under the K to 12 program, forming graduates to be Leaders with Character. Towards this, the High School Department is focused on faculty development with emphasis on the teacher as curriculum leader, as keenly as it is on its student activity and development program.


Curriculum

UIC High School teachers have also prepared for the intensified application of the Framework and the initial implementation of the K to 12 program by undergoing the training, “Curricular Visioning and Bench marking” that puts emphasis on the teacher as a curriculum leader. The training’s lecture-workshop construct enhances teaching effective.
The training initiative is an innovative approach to re-tool the faculty to effect curricular change and to expand learning opportunities. The teachers productively engage in the workshop activities, leading to a review of the Development Program on Instruction.
        Teaching plan based on my observe, English teacher in UIC high school was good. they have a good teaching plan. it means that they are professionalisme.

Teaching methods: Scientific approach and whole language.
Learning Material and Innovation. An English teacher used two handbooks. It is just for guide the teacher, and of course the teacher has many innovation to teach the student. An English teacher always update the news then the news related with their lesson. Mostly an English teacher invite the students to discuss.


Sources of learning and technology, they used book and laptop and LCD television.

      Authentic Assessment. Every quarter the students have big project. As like news broadcasting. They are as like broadcaster. An English teacher ask the students to show it the end of month. the students should write it down first.
      When was the teacher teaching an English teacher always use 5 W plus 1 H for questioning, and students very active. mostly they can answer the question. 
My teaching practice
Teaching Practice
Procedures of teaching, at that time i should finish my teaching 20 hours. Before my teaching the teacher gave me him schedule and I teach the grade 8. I saw that him schedule is very much. At that time the teacher gave me opportunity to handle five classes they are; St. Luke, St. Pedro, St. Catherine. St. Mark. Every one meeting the time just one hour different with Indonesia,  here are real one hour.
Time Management and Organizing Activities.
One hour is effective time for teaching, and i can use that time for delivery my material. then can manage that time and also easy to organization activities. Almost of the students can cooperate with me.

Problem Solving
At the first time I got some problem, the problem is language that was Indonesian and Philippine have different pronounce, for solving this problem I just ask the teacher or student what they mean.
Classroom Management
Easy to manage the students, the student very respect me, and follow my instruction.

Summary and Suggestion
Purpose practicum, for getting teaching experiences. from this project i got many things.
Outcomes of practicum, I got new insight about teaching or school system and mangement.
Challenges of Practicum Language is the number one for example when the Philippine people said back, i should think first and also wait the helper word.
Food, because I am Muslim I must eat the halal food, and lucky am I the UIC provide many things for me. As like special kitchen for us and some food also. I cooked by myself.
If we go outside the challenge one is when we want to pray. Example we go to the market, mall and other big place they do not have prayer room, but in the school there is.



Overall impression
The first, I say big thank to the SEAMEO. I think it is good project, and give the student much experiences. Sea-Teacher is not also give us teaching experiences and also give us information about culture, social and etc. Then thank you to UIC and my campus UPY.
