THE RESULTS OF COMBINING IQ AND EQ
IN ENGLISH TEACHING PROCESS

Abstract
This research aims to explore the results of combining Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ) in the English teaching process. This research was conducted in Muhammadiyah Junior High School 2 of Yogyakarta. The researcher interviewed an English teacher to obtain information about combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process. The researcher asked four questions and the teacher answered them. The results show that the students will have enthusiasm and pretension to know English more and the English teacher can deliver the lesson easily. When the teacher can combine IQ and EQ in English teaching process, the students will be motivated to learn English. If the students are motivated, it is easy for the English teacher to teach.

As we know that most English teachers have problem for combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process, because a lot of English material needs to be delivered, while the time is limited, and the result mostly English teachers just focus on students IQ. It means English teachers have not taught enough experience in English teaching. The researcher hopes that English teachers can combine IQ and EQ in English teaching process, for example give an ice breaking game in the first teaching section, after that give some small discussions or do any kinds of sharing. Only there after would the students might be intrested to study English. Exploring Language and Language Learning. There are six innovations for teaching process those are, (1) Teaching essence; (2) Teaching technic or method; (3) Teaching principle; (4) Management class; (5) Study theory; and (6) Professionalism (Suyanto, 2004, pp. 1-2). Daniel Golman (1995) said “IQ just 20% help in live successful a person, whereas EQ or perspicacity emotional contribute around 80%. The Synergy IQ and EQ is the most important thing in teaching,” therefore combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process very necessary for getting successful in English education.
Motivation will arise some expectations of what they learned. If the students have motivations and high expectations, there is a possibility that they will success in the learning process. Conversely, if the students do not have the motivation, it is certain that they cannot get optimal results in learning. Therefore, it is the teachers’ main task in the class is to give the motivation to the students. When the motivation can be raised, we plan the next steps easier. Moreover, motivation is closely related to the expectations of students to get optimal results. Therefore, English teachers are required to innovate learning. For example, when they teach with great effort to develop learning methods which are able to develop students' emotional, social, and cognitive. From the various research results, it has been proven that emotional intelligence has much more significant role than intellectual intelligence (IQ). Intellectual intelligence (IQ) serves as minimum requirement of success, but the real emotional intelligence to deliver someone to the top of achievement.
C. METHODOLOGY
This research aimed find the result of combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process. Therefore, it was conducted through interviewing an English teacher, as a participant, from Muhammadiyah Junior High School 2 of Yogyakarta on March, 17th 2017. She was an alumnus of Ahmad Dahlan University of Yogyakarta. After the interview, the researcher focused on observing the classroom action. The researcher believed that when English teachers had many methods for teaching, the students would have more motivation in studying English. An example can be seen in our environtment, In a English village in Pare Kediri East Java, the tutors there had various methods for teaching English as means to make the students not bored. In investigating issue about combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process, the researcher observed the classroom which was taught by the participant. The observation took two days to help the researcher to analyze students’ problem and student’s motivation improvment.
D. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
In the interview, the researcher found a fact through the participant’s opinion that combining IQ and EQ was a good way for teaching English. However, the participant could not combine IQ and EQ in English teaching process because in the curriculum there are many materials to be taught in English lesson and the allocated time was limited. Her method in combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process was using games or displayed videos contained English materials. The purpose of the action was mostly directed to anxious students, so that they are able to enjoy and have fun in learning, after that making some small discussions, and finally she would give them some tests to review the material. In obtaining further information of combining IQ and EQ in the learning process of English, the researcher took part in the classroom in order to find the differences between teachers who combine IQ and EQ with those who do not. The researcher observed there were many differences between teacher who combine IQ and EQ in the learning process with the teachers who do not. Upon observing the classroom at Muhammadiyah Junior High School 2 of Yogyakarta, the researcher found that there are different styles for teaching. For teachers who did not combine IQ and EQ in teaching, would emphasize on the students’ IQ needs. They only focused on the module and a little to no variation could be found in the teaching process. Teachers who combined IQ and EQ in teaching English built different teaching atmosphere. The researcher found that teacher who combined IQ and EQ can generate student’s motivation for learning English, and all of the students were interested to study in that class. The students will be interested to learn English and also felt happy when students were taught by the teacher. Then, there was good communication built between students and the teachers. When students felt comfortable to be taught by such teacher, conveying English material would be easy for English teachers. Therefore, variety of methods in teaching process would be surely found.
Through this observation, the researcher made conclusion that the great way for teaching English is combined IQ and EQ in English teaching process. Combining IQ and EQ most necessary in English teaching process. Based on this research the researcher found the result of combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process. The first when English teachers could combine IQ and EQ in the learning process then the motivation of students to learn English is created. The second creation of a fun classroom atmosphere because not only teachers who actively participate in the process of teaching and the students also involved in the matter that it means creating a good communication between teachers and students. Then the students did not feel afraid with English lesson, because all this time they assume that English learning that requires students to memorize such as tenses and vocabulary. The result taken from combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process showed that the students were very enthusiastic in learning English. They turned out to have passion to know English more and more. Through this condition the English teachers would have easier chance to convey English materials. Since students’ motivation took a huge part in learning, the teachers must try to make a fun classroom atmosphere. Here, the researcher met additional findings that a dun classroom atmosphere can be made by making small conversation with students. The teacher can ask about, "what do you eat today? What time you wake up today? And many Exploring Language and Language Learning else”. Ask that question by joking. Give them an appreciation when they success to do something. It is simple but can give big effect to the students. Additionaly, Using media to support students English learning process (for example playing film, playing card for remember some vocabulary, playing pictures and etc.). Therefore, English teachers have to be creative when they teach English.
E. CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
1. Conclusions
Based on the analysis of the students when they studied, the researcher draw conclusions as follow:
1. English learners especially in Junior High school the students need some motivation from an English teacher to learn English. Therefore, English teachers have to vary their teaching methods (on several meetings) in order not to make students bored with the lesson.
2. Combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process enable the students to be active in the teaching learning process. They were able to do something about English and they are confident to show their English skill; for example making small discussions and they are brave to ask their teacher about what they do not understand. Combining IQ and EQ is necessary in English teaching process. When the teacher apply IQ and EQ combination in English teaching proses, the researcher believes that the students will be very enthusiastic in learning English.
2. Suggestions
Combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process should be a strategy for building student’s motivation. It is useful to improve student’s passion in learning. Then, if English teachers can combine IQ and EQ in English teaching process, it could help them to convey an English lesson easily. Further research, the research suggested toconduct similar research in other schools. So that the results of combining IQ and EQ in English teaching process and the methods teachers use in English teaching process can be to compared.

There is previous research related to the synergy of combining IQ and EQ in teaching to improve student’s motivation. Before we discuss about teaching method, it is better to understand how to teach well. In order to have a good learning process we have to start from the motivation phase (Suyanto, 2004, pp. 4-5). The English teachers have to create a fun classroom situation and make small conversation with students. The teacher can ask about, "what do you eat today? What time you wake up today?” and many else. Then give them an appreciation when they success to do something. As previously researched by Ambarjaya (2012), when a person decides to be in the field of education, it means they will have enormous responsibility. For once, students various characters will be a challange in educating process. If the educator is not qualified to serve and understand the students’ various characteristics. Emotions in individuals have significant role in directing and managing somepeople’s drives which can affect their personality structure. Thus, it will determine the quality of certain behaviors in their activities.
In this era, there are many languages used in Indonesia; one of them is English. Moreover, Indonesia has joined ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Thus, the government has a big responsibility in relation to AEC. The government has to cooperate with education department, especially English teachers. English teachers have active roles in teaching English. Therefore, they have to know how to teach students with good methods to build students’ enthusiasm and motivation. There are many students who do not like to study English. They get bored whenever they study English. Many students complain about this subject. Therefore, English teachers have to know the students’ characters to motivate, support, and build students’ pretension to study English. In English teaching process, English teachers have to combine Intelligence Quotient (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ). When English teachers can combine IQ and EQ in English teaching process, English will be easy, fun, and more attractive for students in order to make teaching process success and get maximal school grades. If the students have had it, teaching English is easy for an English teacher.
